COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Lancaster Mall has been
an active member of our community since
1971. We strive to support our community
through donations, sponsorships and
partnerships with organizations which have
missions that support our values.
Some of our
recent community involvement includes:
• April 2011, Lancaster Mall held the second annual free
shredding and e-cycling event. Partners
included Garten Services, Oregon Green
Schools and North Salem High School.
Results: Shredding: 7,300 pounds, Plastic: 5
pounds, Cardboard: 271 pounds, Electronics:
4,115 pounds, Cartridges: 3 pounds, Cell
phones: 5 pounds.
• Committed to recycling, waste reduction
and prevention, environmentally preferable
purchasing, energy efficiency and
conservation, water pollution prevention,
Lancaster Mall received Earthwise
Certification from Marion County in 2008
(recertified 2011) by exceeding Earthwise
criteria and becoming an environmental
leader in Marion County.
• March 2011 in conjunction with local
magician, Jeff Martin and Macy’s, Lancaster
Mall raised over
$3,635 in food and cash for the Marion Polk
Food Share.
• Holiday 2010, Santa's Food Drive (Marion
Polk Food Share), the Oregon's Department of
Human Services and the United States Marines
Corp Toys for Tots Collection Event, and the
Salvation Army's Tree of Giving all
benefitted from the generosity of the mall
shoppers and tenants.
• 2008, 2009 and 2010, the mall partnered with Marion
County Health Department and City of Salem
Firefighters to provide free flu vaccines
(seasonal and H1N1) to our community. Sign
Language, Spanish, and Russian-speaking
interpreters were provided.
• Hosts 3 - 5 American Red Cross Blood
Drives each year resulting in approximately
120 pints of blood collected annually.
• For the health and wellbeing of our
community, Lancaster Mall opens at 6:30am
each morning for hundreds of local residents
to walk inside and out of the weather.
• Hosted Salem’s first Muscular Dystrophy
Association “Jimmy C. Stride & Ride” for ALS
Research in 2009.
• To ensure local children have a safe, warm
and dry Halloween, Lancaster Mall has invited
the community to do their trick-or-treating
at the mall for over 30 years (approximately
1978). Thousands of children participate
annually.
• Since 2006, Lancaster Mall helps sponsor
Salem’s annual World Beat Festival, a
two-day program of international music,
dance, song, traditional theater, ethnic
foods, hands-on crafts, traditional customs
and rituals, and folklore. The Festival is
conducted by the Salem Multicultural
Institute, a non-profit organization.
• 2006-2010, Lancaster Mall hosted the Oregon Lottery’s
annual Scratch-its for Schools Event, a
program in which public schools compete for
cash prizes. Team members scratch as many
Scratch-it tickets as they can, while the
countdown clock speeds away. All cash prizes
the teams uncover are kept by the schools
resulting in thousands of dollars each year
for area schools.
